The Art of Creating Your Life and Leadership as You Want It

An Empowerment Workshop Series for Social Justice Leaders in New York City who identify as Cis and Transgender Women of Color, and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color

Hosted by: The New York Women’s Foundation, The Scherman Foundation, North Star Fund, New York Foundation, Daphne Foundation, Korean American Community Foundation, Mertz Gilmore Foundation, and Stonewall Community Foundation

This Empowerment Workshop Series, “The Art of Creating Your Life and Leadership as You Want It”, is designed to support cis and transgender women of color, and gender non-conforming people of color in New York City to become increasingly powerful and effective social justice leaders.  How? By uncovering a wholehearted and total vision for their lives and leadership, overcoming barriers to their fulfillment, and developing skillfulness to navigate their interior landscapes. Participants will cultivate practices and connections, which builds collective power for greater results from their efforts without sacrificing individual happiness, sustainability and well-being.

The Series will kick-off with a two-day retreat in May, followed by four half-day workshops during the week from June to August. This program is designed for a cohort of 14-16 participants who will be selected through an application process. Participants are expected to attend the retreat and all four workshops.

Retreat: May 20-21, 2016 at The Watershed Center

44 Kaye Road, Millerton, NY 12546

During this two-day retreat, participants will build trust, community and safe space together, which will be the foundation that supports ongoing work together.  Participants will be grounded in the empowerment model and receive tools to engage in continued work, including peer coaching.

The retreat will be at a The Watershed Center, a retreat center for social justice changemakers located on a 73-acre farm adjacent to hundreds of acres of state forest, two-hours north of New York City in Millerton, New York. With 19th century farmhouses, post-and-beam barns, a 30-foot yurt, swim lake, hiking trails, waterfalls and a beautiful organic farm from which fresh meals are prepared.  Hosting the kick-off retreat in a natural setting away from daily routines supports participants to relax and deeply engage in a transformational experience.

Series of 4 half-day workshops (June – August)

Following the kick-off retreat, participants will engage in four follow-up half-day sessions (June-August) to deepen into the empowerment model and receive ongoing support.  These sessions will be held at locations in NYC on the following dates.

Workshop #1:  June 10, 2016

Workshop #2:  July 8, 2016

Workshop #3:  July 29, 2016

New York City, June 16, 2015 at 8:30-10:30 AM – SiOP will share our model of transformational leadership development as part of the EPIP New York | EPIP Women’s Career Empowerment Workshop at the New York Women’s Foundation.

Recent polls by The Chronicle of Philanthropy have found that while women make up the majority of positions at nonprofit institutions, less than 20% are led by women.

The same study indicated that 72% of all the women under 34 said they wanted to be a leader.

How can we work together to bridge this gap in the field?

Please join us for EPIP’s first workshop in the Empowerment series with a focus on helping women in philanthropy define their roles as leaders and advance in their careers.

Working together, we will find inspiration from a leader in the field during the first half of the morning, and then learn key practices to enhance your career through the instruction of an executive coach.

This workshop aims to provide emerging women professionals in philanthropy with a safe space to reflect on their leadership practices and develop strategies to move forward in their careers.

Key takeaways of the morning are to develop an awareness of your leadership style, engage with peers in the field, and develop strategies you can use to advance your career.
